Today is my 31st birthday! I spent a lot of time ignoring that this birthday was on the horizon if I’m being honest. And that’s strange because I LIVE for birthdays! I love celebrating other people’s birthdays and I love celebrating my own. But this year I think I just have been so busy with my new job, so busy trying to keep up with my fitness goals and spending a ton of time and effort in the gym and with meal planning/tracking, and also trying to manage my social life and getting adequate rest…the list goes on. My birthday kinda snuck up on me. Thankfully, my husband did such a great job of planning a birthday weekend in Dallas for me and I was spoiled rotten. We stayed at the Statler (in all honesty, we were underwhelmed but at least now we know and can cross it off our list!), had some great food (shoutout to Mercat Bistro in the Harwood District – it’s a MUST) and did some retail therapy that I definitely did not deserve HA!
Our favorite part of staying at the Statler, though, was spending an entire afternoon at their rooftop pool and bar, Waterproof. The views were great, the pool was quaint and even for an overcast day it was just nice to hang out, relax after a very stressful week at work, enjoy some bubbles and spend time together.
Note: the Statler requires you to gain a license from them to be able to use “professional” cameras which included my new birthday gift, a Canon EOS M50. I was happily snapping away up there and then was told I had to go put my camera back in my room. I’m not sure why this rule exists..? Someone can maybe educate me on this. It felt silly because everyone was shooting pictures with their iPhones, but my compact Canon wasn’t allowed. I’m sure there has to be some kind of reason for this, but if you’re a blogger/vlogger or just like taking quality pictures when you travel…be warned!
Thankfully, though, I had gotten a few shots before having to put my camera back in the room and I’m so excited to have such a great new camera to shoot quality photos with, that I thought I’d share them here! Unfortunately, my swimsuit (River Island) and cover up (Forever 21) are both from last season and sold out so I can’t link them. But I loved the combo together and if you’re needing inspo for a rooftop swim look, this one is it and could easily be recreated.
So join me for a birthday Aperol Apritz! Cheers and here’s looking forward to year thirty-one!
XOXO, Thessali
