Functional But Chic Kitchen Appliances

September 17, 2020

A short time back, I polled Down in the Hollow “followers” on Instagram to see what kind of blog posts you all would be interested in and one request was for a guide of functional but chic kitchen appliances. I knew I wanted to put one together, but the task seemed very daunting and time-consuming. Thankfully, after submitting the project I’ve been working on for several months I now have time on my hands and so today while binge-watching Victoria I put this together and I had so much fun doing it! You’ll notice that not all of the items I have compiled are “appliances” but I couldn’t resist adding in some cute kitchen flair. The kitchen, in many ways, is the heart of the home. I’ve worked to make mine a place of warmth and have collected beautiful things to make everything I do and everyone I serve within her walls just a bit more special. I hope you find inspiration in this guide and perhaps find a few things to add to the heart of your own home.

Let’s get started with the first category! Each category will be followed with shoppable links to the exact items!

Shopping links through a blog post does not cost anything extra to you, but does give the blogger a very small commission and each and every time a link is shopped is very much cherished as we put so much work into creating things like this!

If you follow me on my @downinthehollowblog Instagram, you probably already know how much I love Smeg! There just could not be more chic appliances on the market than Smeg and in my opinion, they’re worth every bit of the investment as they are well-made and last very long versus buying a more affordable appliance and then having it break down on you and not function at a high level for as long.

I have this exact Bodum and I use it every single day. I’ve also had this toast rack since I was a teenager and I still found it available to link for you! My coffee frother (which I also use every day) is from IKEA but I can’t link from IKEA so I found one that is very comparable and comes with a little stand! If you don’t have a frother, you’re not doing your morning coffee justice. I start my day with coffee in my Bodum and before I pour my coffee in my cup, I put oat milk in the cup and froth it up so that when I pour in my coffee, the oat milk froth rises to the top of the cup and it’s perfect.

I recently bought the pale blue set of kitchen tools! I felt like my husband and I had gotten married and just kind of had a drawer full of hodge-podged tools and nothing matched. So I packed up all of those things to use on camping trips, carried it out to the garage and replaced it with a beautiful set of matching blue ones! You really will not believe the incredibly affordable price on that set! But perhaps my favorite thing on this graphic is the bedside water tumbler. We have one at our house that is specifically for guests that stay in our home. It’s just such a lovely touch to have a beautiful crystal water tumbler with a cup included to put ice water in and have at your guest’s bedside. It’s all in the details.

I find that even the details that go into baking can add an element of special beauty to a kitchen. I use berry crates in my fridge, I use porcelain egg holders, the cute rolling pins that I own I actually use, I routinely use my Himalayan salt mortar and pestle, etc.

I think I’m a little biased to this graphic because it just makes me so happy. This is truly a collection of gorgeous, special items to add to any home. From the monogram on an a champagne bucket, to the elixir bottles for bar cart tinctures and then the luggage cart tiered shelves perfect for displaying items on a bar cart or serving small bites with cocktails!

If you found inspiration in this guide and picked up any new items for yourself, let me know in the comments! I would love to hear your thoughts.

XOXO, Thessali
