My very first blog post was to try to tell you all about myself so you got to know the girl behind the blog. I went through 20 facts about me. I’ve thought about that post since then and it made me want to do something a little different. While those 20 facts are all important in getting to know me – where I’ve lived, my professional achievements, things about my family, etc. – that’s not really the stuff of what makes me, well, me!
So I’m making a new list!
Sometimes it feels like when we get to know someone new, we always get their elevator pitch. “Hi I’m _____, I work in _______, I’m married, I have ____ kids” or different variations of the same introduction, right? The hierarchy of what we find to be important about ourselves isn’t necessarily wrong because we should be proud of our accomplishments and our loved ones, but there are so many unique things that make up who we are as people and those should be celebrated a lot more than they are!
So let’s do something new, I’m going to list 10 things that make me ME and I want you to list things about YOU in the comments. Let’s remind ourselves of our little quirks and funny traits that make us all different and uniquely us!
I have a cry song. When I’m really emotional about something and just need a good cry, I listen to “Secret Garden” by Bruce Springsteen and just have it out.
I have a cup of hot tea nearly every night. My preference is PG Tips, two brown sugar cubes and a splash of half and half. But I also love Earl Grey and Rooibos.
The one thing you will ALWAYS find stocked in my fridge is flavored sparkling water.
If I could have dinner with anyone (alive), I’d choose Fred Dame. If you don’t know who that is, you don’t love wine nearly as much as I do! LOL
I collect vinyl records and in my *vast* collection you’ll find allll kinds of stuff: Queen, Hall and Oates, the Mamas and the Papas, Irish pub music, Tchaikovsky, Nat King Cole, Dean Martin, Doris Day, Barbara Streisand, Hawaiian Strings, Ray Charles….everything.
I used to play violin, piano, clarinet, bassoon and guitar. Out of those, I’d like to pick back up on violin and piano (I played for seven years!) and if I could choose one instrument I’d love to learn, I’d choose the harp!
I have a weird auditory talent. If I hear a voice once, I’ll always know it. I can tell you who is singing a song I’ve never heard before, I can tell you whose voice is on a commercial…anything.
I’m not a mother yet, but I’ve been collecting children’s books for a few years now for when that times comes. Literacy was always so important in my family and I’ve been collecting books I read as a kid so that my children will know the same joy of reading that I did. The last one I bought was Blueberries for Sal.
One of my dreams is to design a clothing line for children and teens that would be beautiful, classic and modest. I’ve had this idea since college and still think about it all the time. I want to be able to mix modern with the sophisticated elegance of years past. I want kids and teens to have options that aren’t gross crop tops and booty shorts.
I have tachycardia which basically means that I have too much electricity in my heart and it frequently (almost always) beats over 100 times per minute. It also randomly slows wayyyy down, flutters, jumps around, skips several beats, etc. It almost never beats regularly. This doesn’t really affect my every day life other than I can just always feel it doing something weird. It only really affects me if I push myself too hard in fitness or if I’m exerting myself in heat. I get heat exhaustion FAST because of my heart!
