It’s no secret that I love bright colors, wild patterns, classic southern designs and the use of any animal as part of a print – like the dress I’m wearing today with flamingos and tennis rackets. Usually this would make Lilly Pulitzer come to mind and, true, my love for Lilly runs deep. But, there are several other designers who are right there in the game with fun, colorful and unique pieces for the southern belle and preppy girl. One such designer is Gretchen Scott, whom I have been shopping for years! If you want some unique items in your closet that don’t look anything like what others are wearing, you’re going to want to shop Gretchen Scott. I’ve linked a few of my favorites here that are linkable via ShopStyle, but the website is just packed with so many more fun things to add to cart!

I paired this dress with some simple Tory Burch sandals, golden bamboo bangles and blush pink Kendra Scott earrings for a classic yet comfortable look. Today is my last day in South Dakota (blog post on that coming soon) and I’m heading to Spearfish to shop one of my favorite pottery designers – Marianne Vinich with Yellow Bird Studio. This little art gallery in Spearfish that I’m going to is the only place I’ve ever seen this pottery, it’s not available for purchase online and it’s GORGEOUS and oh so unique. I love using it at home when hosting friends and I love when someone asks, “Is that from Anthropologie?” Mwuahaha. Don’t you just love finding little treasure troves that no one else knows about, being able to support a small and local artist and have people think it’s from a massive, popular retailer that creates wonderfully beautiful things? Because I do. The art gallery isn’t actually open on Mondays, but when I reached out saying that I’m from Oklahoma and asking if it would be possible for someone to send me photos of what’s in the gallery so I could order over the phone, the folks at the gallery went above and beyond – even though they will be closed, they invited me down to the gallery anyway so that I can shop at my leisure. WHAT! That’s what my dad calls “South Dakota Kind” and it’s a real thing in this state.
I hope everyone is having a beautiful first day of Fall and I hope if you haven’t already heard of Gretchen Scott, that this discovery will help boost the fun level in your wardrobe!
XOXO, Thessali
