It’s been a while since I’ve done a workwear post! But the 90 degree weather and Spring style has inspired me to get out and take some photos in the most adorable jumpsuit.
There’s so many different office environments and so this might not apply to everyone, it certainly wouldn’t apply to every job I’ve had although it would some others. So I guess this is a cautionary “casual Friday” look AKA know your audience, read your environment. But, I think a jumpsuit can be very appropriate office attire for a casual Friday. It’s the end of the week and you want to wear something more comfortable and flowy since you’ve been in structured blazers and pencil skirts all week.
Jumpsuits can be tricky for work, though. I would discourage any spaghetti straps or strapless ones unless you add a laid back blazer or denim jacket to it and honestly, even that’s a stretch if there’s a lot of movement to your jacket. Also, it should go without saying that the on-trend jumpsuits of today with the cutouts are a huge office no-no. However, an appropriate neckline with a sweet flutter sleeve is absolutely doable.
I paired my jumpsuit with some Kendra Scott accessories. I got this Tegan Y necklace in February (used the husband’s birthday discount code, heyyo!) and the Nicola earrings I got for my birthday in May using my own discount code! If you didn’t already know, you get 50% off of one item on your birthday but they also allow you to use the discount on your spouse’s birthday – I’ve even heard of some instances where they will allow you to bring in your children’s birth certificates and use those! I’ve linked both of these items in the widget below!
Monday-Thursday I typically go with closed-toe heels or flats, but on casual Friday I like to jazz up my shoes. With a single color jumpsuit in such a gorgeous sage color, I chose some spunky mule heels with a botanical pattern on them. I got a fresh pedi yesterday using OPI’s strawberry margarita polish and it was a fun pop against these sweet mules! These are by Bella Marie and they’re at least a year old. I linked some other mule heels I found that would be beautiful with a jumpsuit – they range in price!
Usually on Fridays I would always pick something that I’d be comfortable wearing to meet up with friends afterward. I cannot tell you how many times I woke up without any plans that night, but somehow throughout the work day, text threads would eventually find their way to: “So, happy hour?” And in that inevitable case, I was always ready to go! Y’all know I always like to put together a good “From Desk to Drinks” outfit and with this one, nothing needs to be done for that transition! It works so well for both. And I don’t know about you, but there have been jobs I had where young professional networking events after – or even during work – were a constant component and so I would feel comfortable wearing this jumpsuit to work on a Friday and getting a networking event sprung on me. I never ever want to be caught unprepared to go to an event so I always try to wear something that’s versatile in a plethora of circumstances.
I feel like casual Friday sparks images of nice, dark jeans with a tailored blouse but honestly…you can add a little more spunk to it than that. Don’t discount the power of a tasteful jumpsuit in an office environment! Have fun with that wardrobe!
